"Our climb to Hill 522 which is about 522 feet up was very exhausting. But after we had climbed and reached the top, the view was very majestic. Experiencing the climb was also like experiencing and understanding what the Japanese soldiers went through during the war time. And I think what the Japanese soldiers’ experienced here was harder than what we went through considering other factors."
"When we went to Hill 522 to visit and see the Japanese wartime bunkers, the sun was up and it was hot for me. While we were climbing, I came to realize and thought about the Japanese soldiers during World War II. About 50 Japanese soldiers cost their lives here and it was really tragic. Just imagining when they were tired and hungry. It was really difficult for them to climb this 522 ft. hill and hide from the U.S. soldiers. I hope and pray that there would be peace forever and no more war!"
"I cannot imagine Hill 522 was a battlefield wherein many people died here. Our climb gave me a feeling of exhaustion and pity because it made me imagined how soldiers got food and water up this hill. Climbing this hill was hard, if it was hard for us, how much more for the soldiers during the war. We should all realize that war is never the answer."
"The climb was tiring, but on our way up, I begin to feel what a soldier felt during the war, thirsty and hungry. Many Filipinos were killed by the Japanese and also by the Americans and many Japanese were also killed by the Americans and Filipino guerrillas. If only everybody realizes how terrible war is, there will be peace here on earth."
